Summary

Indicates 'also', 'too', or 'even'. Replaces は, が, を when adding similar items.

Usage Rules

  • Also/too: Xも = X also / X too
  • Negative: Xも = X either (in negative sentences)
  • Even: with numbers = emphasis (一人もいない)
  • Both: XもYも = both X and Y
  • Replaces は, が, を; adds after に, で, へ, と
  • 〜ても = even if / even though (concessive)

Example Sentences

わたしも行きます。

I will go too.

これもください。

I'll also have this one.

一人も来なかった。

Not even one person came.

えいごも日本語も話せる。

I can speak both English and Japanese.

雨がふっても行く。

Even if it rains, I'll go.

Common Mistake

Using も with が/は (も replaces them — never 私はも or 私もが).
