Verb (plain) + こととて / い-adjective + こととて / な-adjective + な + こととて / Noun + の + こととて

Usage

A formal expression of reason, often used to preface an excuse or apology. Common with 慣れぬ, 初めて, 若い.

Example sentences

慣れぬこととて、失礼がありましたらお許しください。

As I am unaccustomed, please forgive any rudeness.

初めてのこととて、戸惑っています。

Since it's my first time, I'm bewildered.

若い者たちのこととて、どうぞ温かく見守ってください。

As they are young, please watch over them warmly.

急なこととて、準備ができませんでした。

Because it was sudden, I couldn't prepare.

土曜日のこととて、駅は人で溢れていた。

As it was Saturday, the station was crowded with people.
