Formation
Verb (plain) + ばかりか / い-adjective + ばかりか / な-adjective + な + ばかりか / Noun + ばかりか
Usage
Similar to だけでなく but more emphatic. Often followed by も or さえ for added emphasis. The second clause presents an even more extreme case.
Example sentences
彼は英語ばかりか、フランス語も話せる。
He can speak not only English but also French.
その店は安いばかりか、味も素晴らしい。
Not only is that shop cheap, but the taste is also excellent.
彼女は美しいばかりか、頭もいい。
She is not only beautiful but also smart.
その映画はつまらないばかりか、時間の無駄だ。
Not only is that movie boring, it's a waste of time.
彼は謝らなかったばかりか、笑っていた。
Not only did he not apologize, he was laughing.
