Formation
Verb た-form + ところ + discovery result
Usage
Used when describing that after doing something, the speaker discovered an unexpected result. Often used with 〜たところ、〜だった.
Example sentences
先生に聞いてみたところ、休講だそうです。
When I asked the teacher, I found out the class is canceled.
調べてみたところ、間違いが見つかった。
When I checked, I found a mistake.
彼に電話したところ、留守だった。
When I called him, he wasn't home.
窓を開けたところ、雪が降っていた。
When I opened the window, it was snowing.
薬を飲んだところ、熱が下がった。
When I took the medicine, my fever went down.
