Summary

Gives a reason or cause, with the main clause stating the result. More personal and subjective than ので.

Usage Rules

  • Reason: AからB = B because A (subjective)
  • Used with plain and polite forms
  • More personal/subjective than ので
  • 主観的な理由 (personal reasons)
  • Can end a sentence: 〜からです
  • Common in explanations and justifications

Example Sentences

つかれたから休みます。

I'll rest because I'm tired.

やすいからかった。

I bought it because it was cheap.

日本人だから日本語がじょうずだ。

Because he's Japanese, he's good at Japanese.

やくそくがあるから行けない。

I can't go because I have plans.

ここはしずかだからすきです。

I like this place because it's quiet.

Common Mistake

Using から when the reason is objective/factual (ので sounds better for objective, factual reasons).
