Formation

Verb ます-stem + そうです / い-adjective (drop い) + そうです / な-adjective + そうです

Usage

Expresses a judgement based on visual appearance. Different from hearsay そう. The speaker infers from what they see.

Example sentences

このケーキは美味しそうです。

This cake looks delicious.

雨が降りそうです。

It looks like it's going to rain.

彼は元気そうです。

He looks energetic.

その仕事は大変そうだ。

That job looks tough.
