Formation
Verb (plain/past) + とき / い-adjective + とき / な-adjective + な + とき / Noun + の + とき
Usage
Expresses the time when an action or state occurs. The tense of the clause before とき can indicate whether the action is completed or not yet done.
Example sentences
日本に行くとき、パスポートが必要です。
When going to Japan, you need a passport.
子供のとき、よく泳ぎました。
When I was a child, I often swam.
ご飯を食べるとき、いただきますと言います。
When eating, we say itadakimasu.
暇なとき、本を読みます。
When I'm free, I read books.
駅に着いたとき、電話してください。
Please call me when you arrive at the station.
